George Clooney has opened up for the first time about the twins that he and his wife are expecting this summer.
Clooney told the French TV show Rencontres De Cinema that he and Amal are excited about the “adventure” that awaits them.
Rumors of the pregnancy first surfaced at the end of last year, when a report in Lebanon’s Daily Star claimed the Clooneys were expecting twins, citing a family friend in Lebanon (Amal Clooney has joint British and Lebanese citizenships).

The news was confirmed a little over a week ago by their friend Matt Damon, who told Entertainment Tonight Canada that Clooney, 55, confided the news to him when Amal, 39, a prominent human-rights lawyer who works in a prestigious London law firm, was only eight weeks’ pregnant. Damon said he told Clooney: “Are you out of your mind? Don’t tell anybody else, don’t tell anybody else. Don’t you know the 12-week rule?”
This pregnancy is the first for the high-powered couple, who were married in Italy in 2014 and live in a historic mansion just outside London.
In the interview, which Clooney gave to mark the fact that he has been awarded a Cesar award by the French film academy, the actor said: “We are really happy and really excited. It’s going to be an adventure. We’ve sort of embraced it all with arms wide open.”
Clooney said that his friends were “very supportive” of the news, although his inital announcement at a group dinner was met with disbelief and good-natured teasing: “They all just started making baby crying noises, and the whole table just busted up laughing.”
Clooney will be 56 by the time his twins arrive, but said he took heart from the example of French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, who had a child with his second wife, Nathalie Tardivel, when he was 70.
“I’m feeling a little better about being 56 by the time [they come],” Clooney said.
