This one will go down in the record books. The San Francisco Giants took Game 1 of the World Series 8-3 on Wednesday, propelled by Pablo Sandoval’s three home runs—a feat only previously accomplished by Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols in the World Series. The 26-year-old third baseman became the first Giant to hit a homer in the first inning of a World Series game since 1933, when the Giants were still in New York—and by the fifth inning and his third home run, he hit the ball so powerfully that he broke his bat. “I was stepping on second base and thinking, ‘Wow,’” Sandoval said after the game about the record-tying home run. “I can’t believe I hit three home runs in a game.”
