Gillian Anderson to Play Margaret Thatcher in Season Four of ‘The Crown’

X-Files star Gillian Anderson is reportedly set to portray British prime Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of the blockbuster Netflix series The Crown, The Sunday Times reports. Famously dubbed “The Iron Lady,” Thatcher served as Prime Minister from 1979 to 1990, becoming the U.K.’s longest-serving prime minister of the 20th century and the first ever woman to be prime minister. Meryl Streep won an Oscar for her portrayal of the polarizing leader, in 2011’s The Iron Lady. Anderson, who grew up in the United Kingdom and the United States, is known for playing realist FBI agent Dana Scully on the X-Files, working to prove “the truth is out there” since 1993. The actress will now be swapping her FBI badge for a handbag. Netflix has yet to confirm a release date for season three of The Crown.
