An 11-year-old girl died Friday after falling from a Ferris wheel at Morey’s Piers in Wildwood, New Jersey. The fall happened around 12:30 p.m. and police say the girl may have been on a school trip. Police also said that it appeared to be a freak accident, and there was no sign of an intentional jump or horseplay. At more than 156 feet tall, the Ferris wheel is one of the largest on the East Coast. The girl fell when she was about halfway up, which means she fell from about as high as a five-story building. The ride was built in 1985 and passed its last inspection on March 17.
