On Tuesday, Guantanamo Bay inmate Emad Abdullah Hassan filed a lawsuit to stop the force-feeding of inmates on hunger strikes at the prison. Hassan, who is Yemeni, has been engaged in a hunger strike since 2007, and the group representing him, Reprieve, says he has been “abusively force-fed” more than 5,000 times over the past seven years. "All I want is what President [Barack] Obama promised: my liberty, and fair treatment for others," says Hassan, who was cleared for release in 2009. A February decision that gives federal judges jurisdiction in cases on prison conditions at Gitmo allowed for this first-of-its-kind suit to go forward. “While I do not want to die, it is surely my right to protest peacefully without being degraded and abused every day,” Hassan pleaded in a statement.
