Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said on Saturday that President Donald Trump approached him during the campaign and asked him to find a way “legally” to ban Muslims. “When he first announced it, he said ‘Muslim ban.’ He called me up and he said, ‘Put a commission together. Show me the right way to do it legally,’” Giuliani said on Fox News. “We focused on, instead of religion, danger—the areas of the world that create danger for us, which is a factual basis, not a religious basis.” He went on to say that the ban is not based on religion, but religious minorities from the seven Muslim-majority countries named in Trump’s executive order are given priority.
