Republican congressional candidate Dan Crenshaw has blasted Pete Davidson after the Saturday Night Live comedian ridiculed an eye patch he wears because of injuries from his third tour of Afghanistan as a Navy SEAL. Davidson said during Saturday’s “Weekend Update” segment that Crenshaw looked “kinda cool” but that onlookers may be “surprised he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie.” Davidson glibly added, “I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war or whatever.” Crenshaw, who’s running for an open seat in a Houston district, hit out at Davidson in a tweet Sunday, writing: “Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes.” Davidson made fun of a number of candidates—he said Florida’s Rick Scott “looks like someone tried to whittle Bruce Willis out of a penis.”
