For the first time, each of the annual Grammy Award nominations for Record of the Year went to artists of color. Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee were all put up for the music industry’s highest honor as the 60th annual Grammy nominations were announced Tuesday morning. Jay-Z, already a 21-time Grammy winner, and Lamar received the most Grammy nods, and were recognized in eight and seven categories, respectively. Neil Portnow, CEO of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, said the blend of nominees was “a really terrific reflection of the voting membership of the academy.” The Grammy Awards will be handed out Jan. 28 at Madison Square Garden.
