'Great Gatsby' Mansion to Be Razed

The Long Island mansion said to have inspired F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby is slated for demolition, reports Newsday. After sitting on the market for $30 million, the 24,000 square-foot, 25-room Sands Point, Long Island home, called Lands End, will be knocked down before month’s end, and plans are in the works to split the 13 acres of land into five lots worth an estimated $10 million apiece. There are still signs of life in Fitzgerald, though: Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrmann will be helming a 3-D film adaptation Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.
