Gwyneth Paltrow’s company, Goop, has settled a lawsuit with 8 California counties over a lack of “scientific backing” to properly advertise the supposed health benefits of the vaginal “yoni” eggs and an oil blend it was selling. The Mercury News and the Associated Press report the company will pay “$145,000 in civil penalties” and will give refunds to California customers after the company’s “Jade Egg” and “Rose Quartz Egg”—meant to be inserted vaginally for the user to reap health benefits—could not be proven to “balance hormones, regulate menstrual cycles, prevent uterine prolapse, and increase bladder control.” It also will provide refunds for an “Inner Judge Flower Essence Blend” the company claimed “prevented depression.” Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said the county would continue to “protect consumers against companies that promise health benefits without the support of good science… or any science.” Goop said it believed that there was an “honest disagreement about these claims,” but it “wanted to settle this matter quickly and amicably.”
