Just hours before Kamala Harris faces off with Donald Trump for what may be the pair’s only presidential debate at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday, her campaign has released the list of surrogates who will trumpet her talking points. The politicians who will tout her performance in the spin room in Philadelphia include two leaders who she passed over in the veepstakes: Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper. Her home state governor, Gavin Newsom, who defended President Joe Biden after his catastrophic, campaign-ending June debate, will be in the room as well, as will a handful of members of Congress who represent a mix of longtime Harris allies, including Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, as well as a few House lawmakers. Gold Star father Khizr Khan, who has criticized Trump since the 2016 Democratic National Convention, is joining the elected leaders, too. The surrogates will spin reporters about Harris’ record of achievements—and how she's crushing Trump—but also slam Trump as a threat to reproductive freedom and national security, as well as a person who disrespects veterans.
