Harrison Ford kept it short and simple when asked about Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’s disappointing box office run: “S*** happens.” In an interview with the Wall Street Journal published Wednesday, the legendary actor told the outlet that he was “still happy” to make the fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise despite its comparably lackluster performance to past Indy flicks. “S*** happens,” Ford began. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indiana] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened,” he continued. “I’m still happy I made that movie.” Despite its beloved IP and star-studded cast, the 2023 flick opened to a meek $60.4 million at the domestic box office against its estimated $295 million production budget. The franchise’s fourth installment for reference, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, made a little over $100 million in its domestic opening in 2008 (not adjusted for inflation).
