Such snoops at Harvard! Top officials at the university released a statement Monday explaining why it secretly monitored the Harvard.edu email accounts of at least 16 deans. The snooping followed the leak in September of a confidential email that explained how students involved in last year’s cheating ring would be dealt with. According to the statement, officials were concerned that documents that were even more sensitive could be leaked. Are professors pleased? One called the search “dishonorable” and another “one of the lowest points in Harvard’s recent history—maybe Harvard’s history, period.” It seems as if they are not.
