Hastert to Friends: I’m a Victim, Too

Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert—who was indicted for illegally hiding millions of dollars in bank withdrawals, allegedly to silence a former student whom he sexually abused—reportedly thinks of himself as a victim, too. CBS reports that although Hastert did not emerge in public on Friday, he told close friends that he was sorry and that “I am a victim, too.” Hastert was a high school teacher and coach in Yorkville, Illinois from 1965 to 1981; the encounter with the student happened sometime before Hastert entered politics in the early 1980s.
