Just before the Trump administration’s watered-down travel ban was set to take effect Thursday night, the state of Hawaii filed a court challenge to the government’s definition of “close” family ties required for entry. Travelers from six Muslim-majority countries are blocked from entering the U.S. starting Thursday evening, unless they have “close” family or business ties in the U.S. After the Supreme Court kept some provisions of the ban alive in a ruling earlier this week, the government said a “close” family tie included a parent, spouse, child, adult son or daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, or sibling.
