Record heat has been responsible for 30 deaths in the U.S. as of Saturday. More than 20 states have been hit with the current heat wave that has sent temperatures into the 90s and even above 100 degrees in some places. Victims of the heat were mostly elderly. The blistering temperatures have also caused railroads and highways to buckle, even leading one D.C. metro train partially off its tracks on Friday. Thousands of people in the mid-Atlantic region were without power for more than a week after the heat first struck and are now being instructed by electricity companies to conserve power.
