Manhattan’s Alta restaurant has certainly left an impression on its customers. After it was revealed that an employee who handled Alta’s desserts was infected, 239 people—31 of whom work at the tapas spot—received hepatitis A vaccinations over the weekend. About 3,000 people are estimated to have eaten at the West Village restaurant between March 23 and April 2—the time period during which they could have been exposed to the virus—and about 450 of them ordered dessert. As of Friday, the Health Department confirmed no cases of customers contracting the virus, but has been offering free vaccinations to patrons and encouraging anyone who ordered dessert at Alta during that time to take advantage.
