The nurse who took her own life after connecting a hoax call from two Australian DJs left a suicide note, it was revealed today.
The Sun has reported that Ms Saldanha is believed to have hung herself, but a source has told the Royalist that results of a post mortem being carried out today may not be published until Thursday.
The London Evening Standard is reporting that Jacintha Saldanha, 46, wrote a message to her family before she died, but the contents of the note have not been revealed.
It was also disclosed that her family were not even aware of the existence of the hoax call until after her death, as they had not watched the news.
The development came as a post-mortem examination on her body was being carried out by a Home Office pathologist to determine the cause of her death. The results had been expected to be made public today, but it now seems unlikely they will be released this evening. A source told the Royalist they should be published by Thursday at the latest.
Meanwhile, the family of Mrs Saldanha put more pressure on the hospital to tell them 'everything' they knew about her death.
Mrs Saldanha’s husband Ben Barboza, 49, and their two children Junal, 17 and Lisha, 14, “want to know everything”.
Labour MP Keith Vaz, who is representing the family, yesterday met the hospital chairman Lord Glenarthur to demand a full inquiry into her death.
The chairman of the Commons home affairs committee, said: “What the family need are the full facts. What the chairman of the hospital said to me was that there are inquiries going on in the hospital. That is not sufficient for the family. There are unexplained circumstances. The family want to know everything. All the facts, fully and clearly.”
He added: “The hospital needs to be more proactive, a full inquiry is needed and the family need to be included in that.
“They are a lovely close-knit family, a Catholic family who will be spending their first Christmas without their mother, and for Ben, without his wife.”
Mr Barboza, an NHS accountant, and his children live in Bristol.Mr Vaz said: “They were in the dark about the hoax call. They hadn’t watched the news or seen anything about it. They didn’t know they were involved until after Jacintha’s death.”
Jacintha, 46, was found unconscious in a nurses’ accommodation block near the King Edward VII Hospital on Friday and was later declared dead at the scene.
