Hope Hicks, the White House communications director, said Wednesday she is resigning, the New York Times reports. Hicks, 29, is a long-time aide to President Donald Trump and was a fixture during the presidential campaign. Hicks said she had been considering leaving for several months, telling “colleagues that she had accomplished what she felt she could with a job,” the Times said. The resignation comes on the heels after she was embroiled in a scandal involving her ex-boyfriend Rob Porter, a White House aide accused of domestic abuse by ex-wives, and interviews by special counsel Robert Mueller’s office and congressional investigators about her role in the firing of FBI Director James Comey. “I will miss having her by my side but when she approached me about pursuing other opportunities, I totally understood,” Trump said in a statement. Added chief of staff John Kelly: “To say that she will be missed, is an understatement.”
