Rev. Patrick Conroy, the chaplain for the House of Representatives, told Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on Thursday that he was rescinding his resignation. Conroy said he resigned last month after being pressured by Ryan’s office to do so—but later Thursday, Ryan announced that Conroy would be remaining in his role. “I have never been disciplined, nor reprimanded, nor have I ever heard a complaint about my ministry during my time as House chaplain,” Conroy said. Ryan has denied that he fired Conroy over political disagreements, saying this week that “a number of our members felt like the pastoral services were not being adequately served, or offered.” Ryan said on Thursday that he plans to meet with Conroy next week.
