Before the rainy season hits, the air gets dry and you start feeling like things are getting out of control. Dry air means waking up feeling parched (both in your throat and on your face) and while you can only do so much to put moisture back in the air, there are a couple of things you can do to help the consequences of said dry air, the number one thing being static.
From hair oils to dryer solutions, here are some of the best ways to keep your life from being one big static shock.
A very simple way to make sure you don’t end up with static right out of the dryer is to add some type of softening agent. Typically, that comes in the form of dryer sheets, but now’s the time to opt for the heartier (and more sustainable) option of wool dryer balls. Not only do these help cut down drying time, but the material and makeup keep your clothes from sticking to each other.
Most irons come with the option of adding steam, but getting a separate steamer is the perfect way to reduce static anywhere. I have the OVO Portable Steam Iron and I love it because I can bring it with me on trips or stash it in a tote bag if I know the day is exceptionally dry.
This is probably the one and only time I will recommend using metal hangers. They may be bad for your clothes, but they work wonders for static. Run the long side of the metal hanger over whichever piece of clothing you’re having trouble with and it'll help rid it of the cling.
I have recommended this hair oil from Verb over and over and over again. Clothing is the most noticeably static-y, but your hair gets hit with a lot, too. This lightweight oil eases frizz and static cling and smells amazing.
In a quick pinch, using hand lotion to tame static has been my trick for years. I keep some unscented lotion with me in case I need to run it through my hair because the last thing you want is your hair to smell like our hand lotion.
