Hunter Biden has won a bid to drop his laptop hacking lawsuit after claiming heâs too financially strapped to continue the legal battle, the New York Post reported.
A California judge granted the former first sonâs request to dismiss his suit against ex-White House aide Garrett Ziegler, in which Biden accused Ziegler of illegally accessing his computer to distribute personal information online.
Ziegler, a former aide to trade adviser Peter Navarro during the first Trump administration, attempted to block the case from being dismissed in order to pursue legal fees from Biden.
In court papers filed last week, Biden said he didnât have the âfinancial resourcesâ to continue litigating his case. He claimed his income âdecreased significantlyâ since 2023 and said he was struggling to find a new home after the California wildfires in January left his rented Malibu house âunlivable.â
Biden said his income came largely from sales of his art and his memoir, Beautiful Things, but that business has been slow.
He said he sold 27 pieces of art at an average price of $54,481.48 before December 2023, but since then has sold only one piece of art for $36,000. Biden, 55, took up art while in recovery for drug addiction.
His book sales also plunged, he claimed, from 3,161 in the six months up to September 2023 to just 1,100 books in the following six months.
âGiven the positive feedback and reviews of my artwork and memoir, I was expecting to obtain paid speaking engagements and paid appearances, but that has not happened,â he stated in the court filing.
Biden was pardoned by his father, Joe Biden, one month before the president left office. He was facing up to 17 years in prison after being convicted on federal gun charges and pleading guilty to felony tax charges.
