The Atlantic now has three active hurricanes. On Wednesday afternoon, Tropical Storm Katia, which formed in the Gulf of Mexico, was officially upgraded to a hurricane as 75 mph sustained winds were measured. Katia joins Jose as a newly minted hurricane, and the two are active at the same time as Irma, a Category 5 storm currently plowing through the Greater Antilles and tracking to make landfall in either Florida or the Carolinas.
