Infamous Delphi Murderer Gets Eye-Popping Prison Sentence

THROW THE BOOK AT HIM

The Indiana man who murdered two middle school girls in 2017 will never experience freedom again. A judge on Friday sentenced Richard Allen, 52, to spend a whopping 130 years behind bars—the maximum possible sentence—for the grisly double murder he was convicted of last month. Judge Frances C. Gull told Allen that his actions are “right up there with the most hideous crimes.” He added that “these families will deal with your carnage forever.” The sentence appears to be the final chapter of the murder saga of Abigail Williams, 13, and Liberty German, 14, who had their throats slit and their bodies dumped off a hiking trail in Delphi, Indiana, a tiny town of 3,000. Allen evaded authorities for years despite a flood of media coverage but was ultimately arrested in 2022 after police said a cellphone video, unspent bullet, and his vehicle tied him to the murder. Once behind bars, he allegedly confessed to the crime at least twice—once to his wife, and again to a former prison psychologist. In court, however, Allen maintained his innocence. His attorney says Allen will appeal the sentence.
