Investigators were seen digging in the backyard of Joseph James DeAngelo, the accused Golden State Killer who they say murdered 12 and raped nearly 50 between 1978 to 1986. The Los Angeles Times reported that cops were digging up DeAngelo’s yard Thursday but hadn’t found anything significant by early evening. Investigators claimed they weren’t looking for “anything specific,” and a text message from Sacramento County Sheriff’s Sgt. Shaun Hampton said: “We do NOT believe there are bodies buried back there or anything.” DeAngelo, a Navy veteran who served in Vietnam and a former police officer, eluded authorities for decades before they linked DNA evidence from the murders to genetic information contained on a genealogy website. The suspect is due in court Friday.
