The newly formed Hurricane Irma is set to strengthen into a Category 3 storm on Thursday, and potentially a Category 4 over the weekend—all just one week after Hurricane Harvey made its devastating landfall in Texas. The center of Irma, which on Thursday was about 650 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, is expected to move northwest at about 10 mph. Experts say it is too soon to speculate on the potential U.S. threat, which will be clear late next week.
