ISIS fighters have captured key villages on the outskirts of Aleppo from rebel groups opposed to Bashar al-Assad, a monitoring group said Friday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the militants are now one mile from government-held territory around Syria’s biggest city. The news comes amid Iran’s announcement that one of its key generals in Syria, Hossein Hamadani, was killed near Aleppo last week. The Revolutionary Guard general had been its deputy chief commander since 2005.
