A proposed railway tunnel project that would run under Jerusalem’s Old City and near sites holy to Christians, Jews, and Muslims could end at one even more controversial stop: a Western Wall station named for Donald Trump. Yisrael Katz, Israel’s transportation minister, told the AP he’s planning to name the underground station after the president “for his brave and historic decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital” this month. Though the railway’s development is in its early stages, it would involve the excavation of more than two miles of tunnel under contested holy sites and has been fast-tracked by Israel’s rail authority. Previously such excavations sparked violent protests. The plan would cost upward of $700 million and would take four years to complete. Heavy opposition to the project is likely.
