Israel’s military claimed Sunday its missile interceptor system shot down a rocket that had been fired toward occupied Golan Heights, according to Reuters. The military officials’ statement did not make clear where the missile originated. Golan, an occupied territory, is near the Syrian border and Lebanon. Shortly before Israel deployed its missile Iron Dome defense system, Syria claimed to have prevented an Israeli air attack in its southern region, per Reuters. Syria’s state news agency claimed about one week ago that Israeli warplanes had deployed missiles near the Damascus airport. Syrian officials said that the war-torn country’s missile defense system thwarted the weapons. Israel has launched offenses in Syria to prevent Iranian influence from spreading. A high-ranking Israeli official in September claimed that Israel had conducted more than 200 raids on Iran-linked targets in the past two years, per Reuters.
