Ivanka Trump Used Personal Email to Discuss Official White House Business: Report

White House adviser and first daughter Ivanka Trump sent hundreds of emails to “White House aides, Cabinet officials and her assistants” using a personal account in 2017, The Washington Post reports. Many of the emails sent were reportedly in “violation of federal records rules” and “discussed or relayed” official White House business. The Post reports the emails were found after Cabinet agencies reviewed emails while responding to a public records lawsuit. Trump reportedly told aides she was “not familiar with some details of the rules.” Peter Mirijanian, spokesman for Trump’s lawyer Abbe Lowell, told the newspaper Trump used her personal email account before she was fully briefed on the rules. “Ms. Trump sometimes used her personal account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family,” Mirijanian said in a statement, adding that she turned over government-related emails so they could be stored with White House records. Mirijanian also said Trump never discussed classified information, never had a private server in her home or office, and never deleted any of the emails—an attempt to distance Trump’s personal email use from the controversial private email system Hillary Clinton used as secretary of state. Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, reportedly also used a private email account to discuss White House business.
