Jan 6. âStop the Stealâ organizer Ali Alexander tossed right-wing activist Charlie Kirk under the bus during his closed-door deposition with the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot over a year ago, newly released transcripts reveal.
In documents posted Tuesday, Alexander wasnât shy about doling out blame to seemingly everyone but himself during the meeting with House investigatorsâwhile at the same time citing sudden memory lapses that clouded his recollection of the events leading up to that day.
He blamed Kirk and his conservative youth organization, Turning Point USA, for financing the travel of rioters from a number of points across the country to Washington, D.C., where they proceeded to violently break into the Capitol building and assault dozens of police officers in the process.
He cited the groupâs bus network that transported Jan. 6th activists to Washingtonâand conveniently absolved himself of any blame for bringing hundreds of rioters to the scene.
âI think it was my understanding that it was ran through Turning Point USA,â Alexander said, according to the deposition transcript. He denied any involvement, except for the fact that TPUSA was using his âpopularâ Stop the Steal branding.
He went on to respond âyesâ to a Jan 6. committee representative stating: âIt sounds like youâre saying that to the extent that buses were paid for, with the exception of one possible one that you may have had for Stop the Steal, your involvement in the buses was basically to advertise Turning Pointâs offering of the bus.â
But he didnât stop thereâon Tuesday night, Alexander doubled down on Kirkâs culpability for the riot.
âI wonder how Charlie Kirk escaped any scrutiny when he made us bus in all those people on his funded buses,â he told The Daily Beast. âFortunately, heâs losing donors and popularity while gaining face weight. Disgusting!â
Following the events of Jan 6., Kirk deleted a tweet in which he touted that â80-plus buses full of patriotsâ were sent to Washington, D.C., on Turning Point USAâs dime. Responding to Kirkâs attempt to cover his tracks, Alexander told The Daily Beast that âTPUSA turned their backs on the election integrity movement,â while suggesting thereâs more to come regarding Kirkâs involvement.
A Turning Point USA spokesperson didnât return The Daily Beastâs request for comment on this story. (Notably, when asked about Alexander in his own deposition, Kirk pleaded the Fifth.)
Since the deposition, Alexanderâs hatred of Turning Point USA has only grown.
In a series of messages posted to Telegram in late November, the far-right activist has made even more explosive claims against Turning Point USA, including allegations the student group partakes in a âsystemic pattern of covering up sex scandals with non-profit money.â
âClass Action Lawsuit by Parents could take down TPUSA,â he further wrote of the student group heâs taken to calling âSatanic Trafficking TPUSA.â
Elsewhere in his deposition, Alexander often said he didnât ârecallâ certain activities he undertookâor content he published that encouraged violence.
ââWeâve got to punch the left in the nose. You must fight. They will kill us,ââ a Jan 6. committee associate said, reading back an old social media remark from Alexander. Then they asked the far-right activist: âExplain how this statement does not encourage violence?â
Alexander claimed ignoranceâand diverted blame, yet again.
âI donât recall making that statement on Periscope,â he said. âIt actually sounds like a play on words from Rep. Maxine Waters or Speaker Nancy Pelosi, that Iâm playing with.â
On a Telegram call with his supporters late Tuesday night, Alexander declared the transcript showed his unequivocal victory over the Jan. 6 Committee, and called Kirk a âfucking traitor.â
âYou cannot kill me!â he yelled. âI raped the January 6 Select Committee, in a legal, in a perfectly legal rape.â
