The Japanese “K Computer” is the world’s most powerful—three times faster, in fact, than the Chinese computer that previously held the title. Built by Fujitsu and located at the Riken Advanced Institute for Computational Science, K Computer has the processing power of one million household computers combined; it is able to make 8.2 quadrillion calculations per second. The computer is made up of 672 cabinets and uses enough electricity to power 10,000 homes.
