White House senior adviser Jared Trump is expected to meet with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto during a visit to Mexico City on Wednesday, just days after President Trump and Nieto scrapped a planned meeting following a “tense” phone call. Kushner will be accompanied by State Department and National Security Council aides, with topics on the agenda to include security, immigration, trade, and economics, an administration official told The Wall Street Journal. They will also meet with Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray. News of Kushner’s trip appears to suggest he will retain his foreign-policy portfolio despite having his security clearance downgraded last week. Kushner was reportedly asked to step in and keep dialogue going with Nieto last month after Trump grew frustrated with the Mexican leader’s opposition to funding a border wall, a disagreement that ultimately led the two sides to cancel a high-level meeting.
