A great white shark was spotted by scientists off Cape Cod this week, and they got amazing video footage of the 15-foot female, nicknamed “Freckles.” It's the first white shark seen in Massachusetts waters so far this summer.

The East Coast white shark population has surged in the last decade, partly because of the recovery of gray seals. Scientists say they expect to see more sharks this summer as the frigid Cape Cod waters warm up. In 2014, 68 sharks were spotted in the area.
