Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), who announced earlier Friday morning that he would vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, announced prior to the judiciary committee’s vote that he would like to delay a Senate floor vote on the appointee in order to allow for an FBI probe into the sexual-assault claims leveled against Kavanaugh.
In order to fulfill “due diligence,” Flake said before the committee voted to send Kavanaugh’s vote to the Senate floor, it “would be proper to delay the floor vote for up to but not more than one week in order to let the FBI continue to do an investigation.”
However, he said, with that concept in mind, “I will vote to advance the bill to the floor with that understanding.” Flake said he will not vote “yes” for Kavanaugh during the Senate vote without a proper FBI investigation.
