Top Gear and The Grand Tour legend Jeremy Clarkson wrote on Sunday that a sudden case of chest tightness led him to get emergency heart surgery this week. In his weekly Sunday Times column, the TV presenter said he noticed the condition while on vacation along the Indian Ocean, finding it harder to swim or move. “These problems all manifested themselves in one day, which made the rest of my holiday extremely relaxing because all I did was sit in a chair drinking wine and eating cheese,” he wrote. When he went home, he found his chest tightening. That prompted an emergency trip to an Oxford hospital, where doctors installed a stent in his heart to improve blood flow. “The next morning I went home, and here I am, two hours later, writing this and sort of thinking, ‘Crikey, that was close.’”
