Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) announced that he will be running to replace Paul Ryan as speaker of the House in a letter to his colleagues Thursday. “I plan to run for Speaker of the House to bring real changes to Congress,” he wrote. Jordan was formerly the chairman of the conservative Freedom Caucus. In his letter, he advocated for the repeal of Obamacare, welfare reform, and increased border security. Jordan was formerly an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University, where allegations of sexual abuse by a team doctor have come to light. Several former OSU athletes said Jordan knew about the abuse and did nothing. Jordan has denied these claims. Current House Speaker Paul Ryan announced in April that he will retire after this term.
