What if Siri could do more than just find you a restaurant? What if you could tailor your lap top to have a personality that would perfectly compliment yours? These questions rest at the heart of Spike Jonze’ newest movie, Her, with the first trailer out today.

In some not-too-distant future, the dorkily named Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix), is a writer who installs a new operating system into his computer, home and phone that allows him to speak to these devices as if they were a human being. After coming out of a soured relationship Theodore eventually finds a kinship with his personalized operating system as they learn more about each other, and “she” learns about the human world (It doesn’t hurt that the operating system named “Samantha” has the husky voice of Scarlett Johansson).

Her seems like fertile territory for director Spike Jonze whose resume boasts quirky movies like Being John Malkovich and his dark adaptation of the beloved children’s book Where the Wild Things Are. The movie also stars Olivia Wilde, Amy Adams and Rooney Mara. With so many lovely ladies on cast it’s hard to say for sure which “her” the title refers to. Early reports say that the film’s soundtrack will be done by indie darlings Arcade Fire.

Her hits theatres in November.
