Is being a hero a new must for celebrities, like taking your mom to an awards show? John Malkovich came to the rescue on a Toronto street on Thursday night when a Jim Walpole, a tourist in the city, tripped and fell—and slashed his neck on some scaffolding. “The way he was spurting I thought it was the carotid [arter] or the jugular [vein],” said Jim’s wife, Marilyn Walpole, a retired nurse. Marilyn, 79, yelled for help, and Malkovich, who was nearby smoking a cigarette, appeared and used his scarf to apply pressure to the wound. Walpole, 77, said he never even asked Malkovich’s last name, since “I didn’t figure I’d remember it anyhow.” The Walpoles said they didn’t think they had ever seen any of his movies, but Marilyn said now she’s “going to watch all of them that I can.”
