John Mulaney took some time out to roast famous ex-Royals Harry and Meghan Markle while announcing his new weekly talk show on Netflix, Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney. The comedian addressed press to promote the talk show—a spin-off from his critically acclaimed Everybody’s in L.A. series last May—as Netflix further embraces live programming. “We will be live globally with no delay,” Mulaney said, “We will never be relevant. We will never be your source for news. We will always be reckless. Netflix will always provide us with data that we will ignore.” Sounds risky, Mulaney acknowledged: “Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a $20 million production deal with Netflix after leaving royal life in 2020—and the resulting content has been far from a rousing success. Markle’s Martha Stewart-esque lifestyle show recently had its premiere delayed by two months due to the L.A. fires. Netflix seems unlikely to renew their contract, according to reports, but Mulaney hopes to fare better after his show premieres on the platform March 12.
