Dr. Larry Nassar on Wednesday was sentenced to a maximum of 175 years in prison. “I just signed your death warrant,” Judge Rosemarie Aquilina said while sentencing the abusive doctor. She provided him no chance of probation or parole, telling him, “Sir, you do not deserve to walk outside of prison ever again.” Nassar pleaded guilty to assaulting female athletes, primarily minors, while serving as the USA Gymnastics national team’s osteopathic physician. Prior to sentencing, Nassar listened to impact statements from more than a hundred victims—including from Olympian star McKayla Maroney, who called him a “monster.” Prior to sentencing, the judge read a letter from Nassar, in which he defended his medical practices and said the young women “came back over and over” to him. Aquilina dramatically tossed his letter away after reading it, scorning him, and saying, “I wouldn’t send my dogs to you, sir.” It was later reported that Nassar practiced medicine without a license in Texas.
