A federal judge on Friday shot down a request to dismiss the felony case against Hunter Biden for allegedly lying about his drug use on a gun purchase form in 2018. Delaware District Judge Maryellen Noreika rejected the defense’s claim that the case against Biden was politically motivated and that lead prosecutor David Weiss was pressured by the Trump-led GOP to indict him. Noreika said Friday that the defense had “failed to convince the Court” that Weiss had been improperly influenced. “The pressure campaign from Congressional Republicans may have occurred around the time that Special Counsel decided to move forward with indictment instead of pretrial diversion, but the Court has been given nothing credible to suggest that the conduct of those lawmakers (or anyone else) had any impact on Special Counsel,” she wrote in her ruling. The judge hasn’t issued a decision on a separate challenge that argues the gun charges are unconstitutional because people shouldn’t lose their Second Amendment rights due to drug usage. The case is tentatively scheduled to start trial in early June.
