The official Twitter account of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was suddenly deactivated late Sunday night. It’s not clear if the account was suspended by Twitter or if Assange decided to delete it himself. By Christmas morning, it had returned with Assange tweeting a cartoon of Santa Claus. The main WikiLeaks account remains active although it hasn’t tweeted since Dec. 22, a longer period of silence than normal. A new account emerged claiming to be an alternative Assange one and claimed that Twitter had deleted the official account before a major story was set to break. That alternative account has now also been suspended.
