An attack at a military hospital in Kabul has now killed 49 people, a larger death toll than the original report of 30 dead. Officials said ISIS gunmen had dressed as doctors and entered the facility after distributing themselves on various floors. It began with a suicide bomber detonating himself in the 400-bed hospital, and at least 63 people were wounded in the violence. Security forces battled with the attackers—who were armed with automatic weapons and hand grenades—for several hours, and survivors were only able to evade gunmen by barricading themselves in hospital rooms.
