White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has addressed her eyebrow-raising, 32-year age gap with her husband, admitting their relationship is “very atypical.”
The 27-year-old, who is the youngest White House press secretary in history, discussed her marriage to real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, 59, during an appearance on the podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show.
“It’s a very atypical love story but he’s incredible,” Leavitt gushed in the episode last month.
Her comments came as she shared wedding photos on her Instagram on Monday with a caption that read: “Finally found some time to post a few of my favorite pictures from one of my favorite days!”
The pair became acquainted in 2022 when Leavitt was in the midst of running for a seat in Congress in New Hampshire.
“A mutual friend of ours hosted an event at a restaurant that he owns up in New Hampshire and invited my husband,” Leavitt said about their first encounter. “I was speaking. We met and we were acquainted as friends. And then we fell in love.”
Though she ultimately lost the seat to Chris Pappas, Leavitt ended up with a husband. The pair tied the knot in January 2023. A little over a year later in July 2024, they welcomed their son Nicholas Robert Riccio, also nicknamed Niko.
Leavitt went on to express in the interview how Riccio has been supportive of her, “especially during this very chaotic period of life.”
“He is my greatest supporter, he’s my best friend and he’s my rock,” Leavitt said about her spouse. “He’s built a very successful business himself so now he’s fully supportive of me building my success in my career.”
As a result of the assassination attempt on Trump in July 2024, Leavitt decided to end her maternity leave early and resume work on Donald Trump’s campaign, telling The Conservateur in October 2024 that “I looked at my husband and said, ‘Looks like I’m going back to work.’”
