Kathy Griffin will portray Kellyanne Conway on Comedy Central’s Make America Great-A-Thon: A President Show Special, airing next Tuesday, April 3rd at 11 p.m. The appearance, alongside Anthony Atamanuik’s President Trump, will mark the comedian’s first television role since she became engulfed in controversy last May after posing for a photoshoot with a fake severed head made to look like the president. Trump condemned her by name and Griffin subsequently apologized, but the incident took a major toll on her career, with CNN dropping her from its annual New Year’s Eve special. Last month, she made a defiant return to TV on Real Time with Bill Maher, announcing that she will be going on tour this summer, including a stop at Carnegie Hall. “I think it’s important to lean into the controversy, because I know so much more about it now,” Griffin told The New York Times on Thursday. “I think now enough time has passed where people are starting see the ridiculousness of what happened to me, and they’re seeing other people that Trump has done it to.” —Matt Wilstein
