Jeff Zucker may be putting the old team back together: Katie Couric and Matt Lauer are in serious discussions to team up for a new show. Zucker, the former NBC chief who originally put them together at the Today show, has been involved in the talks and figures to be involved in Couric’s next project, regardless of whether Lauer signs up. Some big obstacles remain, however: Lauer’s Today contract expires at the end of 2012, while Couric’s talk show will probably begin in September. Still, The New York Times says the talks are “serious.”
