Kendrick Lamar has won the Pulitzer Prize for his album DAMN., becoming the first rapper to be honored with the prestigious award. The album was described by the Pulitzer committee as “a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.” Separately, The New York Times and The New Yorker won a public service Pulitzer for their coverage of the sexual misconduct allegations against disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein. The Washington Post was also honored for its coverage of sexual misconduct allegations against Roy Moore, the Alabama Senate candidate.
