The Kenyan courts on Saturday confirmed Uhuru Kenyatta’s victory in the March 4 election, despite a challenge by Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Police clashed with a few dozen protesters on Sunday after the verdict in Kisumu, where Odinga still holds popular support. Two people were killed and another 11 injured in Kisumu, while all the shops were looted on Saturday. But in the Nairobi slums of Kibera and Mathare, where Odinga is popular, most people did not want to return to the devastating violence of 2007, when more than 1,200 people were killed after the election. After Saturday’s verdict, Odinga urged his followers to find “peaceful ways” to protest the outcome.
