Keri Russell is joining the cast of the upcoming Star Wars film, which is being written and directed by J.J. Abrams, Variety reports. It is unclear what role Russel will play in Star Wars: Episode IX, but the role reportedly involves “action-heavy fight scenes.” She got the spot shortly before the July 4th holiday after LucasFilm executives and Abrams met with “several” actresses for the role. The last time the actress and director worked together was on the movie Mission: Impossible III. The new film is expected to start filming at the end of the month, and actors Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver are expected to reprise their roles. Russell recently finished the final season of the FX series The Americans, which received high praise and awards.
